Objectives

The training was designed to achieve two primary goals: establishing a rigorous technical foundation in transportation science and applying that knowledge to the unique geographical and operational challenges of Hong Kong.

Technical Literacy: Providing police leaders without a formal engineering background with a deep understanding of transportation systems, traffic flow fundamentals, signal control, queuing theory, and strategic planning.
Operational Experience: Sharing practical insights from previous high-impact projects, specifically the Kowloon East Smart Traffic operations in Kwun Tong and Wong Tai Sin, as well as the Kai Tak Sports Park development

Program Highlights & Curriculum

Engineering and Transportation Systems Fundamentals: Building fluency in core concepts of traffic flow, traffic signal control, queuing and transportation planning.
Advanced Modelling and Optimization: Gaining hands-on experience with micro-simulation software tools such as VISWALK and VISSIM, in collaboration with PTV Group, as well as advanced DISCO (Dynamic Intersection Signal Control Optimization) software for signal control optimization and coordination among multiple junctions.
Real World Case Studies: Analysis of high-impact projects, including the Kowloon East Smart Traffic Management System (covering districts like Kwun Tong and Wong Tai Sin) and Kai Tak Sports Park Crowd and Traffic Management simulations.
