HKUST Traffic Signal Control Executive Training Program

Date                 16 Jan 2023 (Mon)
Time                 9:00 am - 5:30 pm
Venue               HKUST Clear Water Bay Campus
Language        English
Quota               33

Objectives

  • Develop an understanding of traffic signal control fundamentals and traffic flow theory, and limitations of current practice
  • Provide an introduction to advanced models for traffic control: Cell Transmission Model (CTM) and VISSIM

Who should attend?

  • This program is designed for traffic engineers, transport planners, technical officers, or equivalent positions. Managerial staff involved in the design and planning of traffic signals, intersections, and roundabouts will also find this program to be informative and useful.

Program Highlights

  • Basic principles of traffic signal control and traffic flow theory, and limitations of current practice

  • Signal control logic including time budget and delay estimation

  • A brief introduction of cell transmission model (CTM) and microsimulation software VISSIM that are capable of capturing dynamic traffic, spatial queuing, and other properties for deriving performance indices, such as delay, queue length, and vehicle throughput.

  • DISCO (Dynamic Intersection Signal Control Optimisation) software demonstration for signal control optimisation and coordination between multiple junctions

  • VISSIM micro-simulation software demonstration
