Machine Learning and AI: Insights from Social Analytics

In this Friday Seminar, we had an incredibly insightful and exciting time with Prof. Kai-Lung Hui, Head of Information Systems, Business Statistics & Operations Management (ISOM). He shared his views on how data analysis through machine learning can solve real-world business and social problems. Here's a recap of the key highlights from the event! 

Prof. Hui provided a comprehensive background on machine learning, emphasizing its crucial role in analyzing big data and uncovering novel insights. He discussed applications such as predicting stock trends and market returns using neural networks. 

Ensuring data quality in machine learning models was another important topic. He also compared the performance of real doctors to that of Chat GPT, stressing the challenges and opportunities in leveraging AI for healthcare applications. Emphasizing the need for careful consideration of data quality and validation processes to ensure accurate and reliable results.

The collaboration between Wisers-HKUST and our university was highlighted, showcasing the process of training AI using NLP technology and building machine learning prediction models for industries like tourism. Prof. Hui emphasized the importance of user feedback and specific data in refining AI systems for real-world scenarios.
